Here's where things really started to come together for me. Every generation has a musical form that "freaks out" their parents. The emo music is no different. However, the major factor that separates the emo music from trends of the past is its glorification of self-injury and suicide. Think of self-injury, and at times, suicide, as diseases. Every disease needs a vector, or thing that causes the disease to spread. One person can have a condition, but there needs to be a method of transmission for the disease to spread. I believe that the delivery system for self-injury and the increase in suicide is emo music. The concepts of pain hopelessness and glorification of self injury and suicide are clearly apparent here.
